In 2016, I released a singer/songwriter collection of original songs called "Burn It Down Gently." The project was a challenge I had set for myself. It was recorded performing the guitar and vocals at the same time. There were no overdubs nor punch-ins.

R.J. Young's new album "Central Hotel" was born out of trips to Central and especially Southeastern Oregon. The album is inspired by the history and overwhelming landscape of the region. The music blends Americana with modern classical sonorities. Performed and recorded on only acoustic instruments provided both an opportunity and a challenge. An opportunity because acoustic instruments lend themselves to folk and classical genres bringing the listener into the specific story being told. A challenge because Young lives on a very busy road. Due to the sensitivity of the microphones, 90% of the album was recorded after 11pm.
